Fly Cape Town Stadium

The events

Every tour on the site, and the grounds it is played at. Open one to fly its grounds in order.

Every ground

7 real stadiums, each surveyed and built to scale, each with its own city underneath it.

How it works

One control

Tap the screen or press space and your jetpack fires. Let go and gravity takes it back. That is the whole flight model — everything else comes out of how often you tap.

Clearance is the point

The number in the corner is how close you came to the roof as you crossed it. Lower is better, because that is the entire point of a flypast. Under twelve metres is where it gets interesting.

Nothing to install

It runs in the browser on a phone or a computer. No download, no account, no app. A slow connection gets a lighter build automatically.

Why this exists

There was a flypast, and then there wasn't

The pass everybody saw was over Cape Town Stadium — DHL Stadium — in Green Point, between the sea and the mountain. Two Airlink Embraer E190s came across it in formation, one in Springbok green and one in All Blacks black, low enough that the clip travelled worldwide. That ground is modelled here to scale, with Table Mountain closing the southern horizon, Signal Hill and Lion’s Head behind, and Robben Island out at sea. Six more grounds sit alongside it, from Ellis Park and Loftus to the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek.

Every ground here is built the same way: surveyed, modelled to scale, and flown with one control and one number that matters. See all 7.

Common questions

Is it free?

Yes. It is free, there is nothing to download and nothing to install, and there is no account. It runs in the browser on a phone or a computer.

What is the Airlink flyover?

Two Airlink Embraer E190 jets, one painted in Springbok green and one in All Blacks black, flew a low formation pass over Cape Town Stadium before a South Africa v New Zealand Test. The footage travelled worldwide. This game lets you fly the same pass over the same ground, modelled to scale.

How do you play?

One control. Tap the screen or press the space bar and your jetpack fires; let go and gravity takes it back. Steer with A and D, a sideways drag, or by tilting the phone. Everything else — the rings, the roof pass, the aerial loop — comes out of how often you tap.

What is the clearance number?

How close you came to the roof of the stadium as you crossed it, in metres. Lower is better, because that is the entire point of a flypast. Under twelve metres is where it starts to get interesting.

Which stadiums can you fly over?

Six rugby grounds — Cape Town Stadium, Ellis Park, Loftus Versfeld, Kings Park, FNB Stadium and M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore — and the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek for the cricket. Each one is surveyed and built to scale, and you switch between them in the game.
